Camp Cheval
Camp Cheval is offered in the summer for children on a traditional school calendar and during ‘track out’ times throughout the year for the year-round student. It is designed to provide campers with a safe, fun and educational riding experience, for those new to horses as well as for the accomplished rider. Camp Cheval, in order to serve everyone's needs, is divided into Track Out Camp, Community Camp and Pony Camp. All campers are divided into small groups according to riding ability and students are mounted on horses appropriate to their skills. In addition to our regular schedule, we are also offering more camp experiences this year. Evening Camp is a three day session designed to accommodate a work schedule (or other daytime demands.) Two sessions are for any age, but one of the sessions is especially for adults. Why should the kids have all the fun? Mini Camp is a one day experience for those 8-15 yr. old riders who have some experience. We also offer special days for riders 6-9 years old. The Mini Camp offers an opportunity to go beyond the riding lessons and incorporate learning activities such as horse behaviors, stable management and movement of the horse. Parent and Child Camp is a one day camp experience for moms or dads and their equestrian sons or daughters. Parents will feel like a kid again and kids will feel empowered. All will feel a greater sense of connection and understanding through the shared experience. Junior Invitational Workshop is for more advanced riders and those in MacNair's 4-H Club. These campers must be highly motivated to prepare for the challenges of showing horses. Riders must qualify for this session of camp.

Year Round Track Out Camp - 6-16 years of age - Offered September through May - Monday through Wednesday from 9am to 12:30pm - Track Out campers will have the opportunity to ride once daily and will also learn skills such as grooming, tacking and leading horses, as well as basic horsemanship knowledge. - Campers will be divided into age and level-appropriate classes for riding. Other activities will be done as a group.
The Camp Schedule The typical day at camp is packed with activities. On the first day, campers are divided into small groups based on riding ability. Each group will devote time in the morning to: learning varied aspects of horse care and husbandry, preparing the horse to ride by grooming and tacking, and mounting the horse for a formal riding lesson.
MacNair's Country Acres does offer an indoor riding ring to accommodate our least experienced riders. We maximize the use of the indoor ring on rainy days to give riders as much time in the saddle as is possible, weather permitting. (We do reserve the right to amend the riding scheduling for inclement weather such as thunderstorms or excessive heat.)
On Fridays, parents and friends are invited to watch their children exhibit the skills they have acquired. The campers begin with a ground presentation and then display their newly acquired riding prowess. The Friday demonstrations range from walking, steering and trotting to negotiating a course of jumps.
Summer Community Camp - 10 to 16 years of age - Monday - Friday 8:30am - 1pm -Campers will be divided into groups according to experience in order to maximize challenges and minimize frustration. These campers will not only ride, but will handle horses every day and figure out what makes the equine species so unique. It just doesn't get better than this for those who love horses. Activities will be age appropriate, fun and educational. - Students in camp are grouped by skill-level. Every week we have groups for beginner riders as well as for intermediate and advanced riders. Therefore, instruction is tailored to each student’s proficiency and educational level. Our experienced instructors have something to offer even the most advanced riders. Dressage and jumping instruction is available for these upper-level riders. - On Fridays we will hold an exhibition for parents and friends. Students will demonstrate their newly acquired mounted and horsemanship skills.
Pony Camp - 6 to 9 years of age - Monday through Friday from 9am to 1:00pm - Pony campers will have the opportunity to ride once daily and learn grooming, tacking and leading horses as well as basic horsemanship knowledge. - Campers will be grouped into small riding groups based on skill levels so that riders receive the most individualized instruction possible. - Campers will have an exhibition on Friday morning.
