The MacNair’s Approach to Riding

The lesson program at MacNair’s Country Acres is built on a school year calendar with milestones along the way.  The program is designed to accommodate either the lesson student that wants group lessons, private lessons or a combination of the two.   We have structured our Riding School with multiple entry points into the program.  Beginning riders, of any age, start with an Earn Your Stirrups Program.  This 8 week program allows students to gain the critical skills so that they join  a group allowing everyone to continue advancing.  After completing Earn Your Stirrups, students would join either Pony School 1 or Elementary 1 depending on their age.

Experienced riders have an evaluation ride to determine their appropriate level and placement in the program.  Whether you choose group lessons or something more individualized, our students’ progress through a similar curriculum with intermittent milestones and logical progressions both in the saddle and on the ground.

MacNair’s Country Acres has designed its Riding School to offer the underlying support, skills and resources so that our trainers can provide the very best in riding lessons.  We offer our clients a structured approach to horseback riding by building on each set of skills that riders need to proceed successfully. MacNair's Riding School provides opportunities during the year for students to participate in formal ground clinics to improve their horsemanship skills and horse shows where students are able to test their skills against their peers.

In inclement weather, lessons continue in our indoor arena. Those watching lessons may wish to use our heated and air-conditioned observation room, which offers a view of both the indoor and outdoor rings.

We also offer the extra advantages of rigorous summer programs and ongoing clinics and training.  Lastly, we manage our groups so that similarly skilled riders at about the same age are grouped together.  Many of our most experienced riders have been riding together since Pony School.
