                                     Caroline MacNair Carl

 

 

Caroline is the owner of MacNair’s Country Acres, Inc.  She has competed successfully in all disciplines, including hunter/jumpers and dressage. Caroline received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1976. Also during this time she founded and ran the P.E. program for teaching riding to the handicapped. In 1976 Caroline received her riding instructor certification for teaching the handicapped from the Cheff Center in Augusta, Michigan. Caroline continued her riding instructor education at Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship and in 1979 she received her riding instructor certification. In the years to follow she continued her personal riding education as an understudy to several international dressage competitors. Caroline has been a participating member of the US Equestrian Federation (USEF), the United States Dressage Federation (USDF), and the North Carolina Dressage and Combined Training Association (NCDCTA) for thirty years. Caroline has distinguished herself nationally as a competitor by receiving the USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medal.  In 1996 Caroline was inducted into the St. Andrews Hall of Fame for her overall athletic contributions to the school’s riding program.  Currently Caroline trains several young horses.  Caroline has an ANRC Rider Rating.  In 2002, Caroline traveled to Romania upon invitation of the Counselor of Cultural and Public Affairs from the American Embassy.  She  spoke to professionals in Romania on Successful Riding Schools. In 2007, the Triangle Business Journal honored Caroline as one of very few a "Women In Business Award" for her accomplishments with MacNair's Country Acres.

 

Debra Emmons

 

 

 

 

In her role as Office Manager  and Registrar for MacNair's Country Acres, Debra serves our customers, our vendors, our staff and our horses.  She is the "go to" person for information.  Debra is a lifetime rider and enthusiast for the sport.  Currently she enjoys accompanying her daughter Logan to horse shows and who are also the proud owners of a Hanoverian mare named "Furistan".

Joy Currey

 

 

Joy Currey serves as the Director of the Riding Academy at MacNair's Country Acres.  Joy began her riding career at MacNair’s when she was eight and continued as a hunter through college, competing at the intercollegiate level on the University of North Carolina’s Equestrian Team.  Joy now competes as an eventer at the Training and Preliminary levels.  Joy graduated from University of North Carolina in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  After college, Joy worked as a teacher in Philadelphia through a program called Teach For America.  Joy then moved to New York City, where she accepted a job as a founding teacher at a charter school in Brooklyn, NY and also attained her Master’s Degree in School Leadership from Columbia University.  Joy is thrilled to have the chance to combine her love for riding and her passion for education in her role at MacNair’s.  

 

Julie Garnett

 

 

 

Julie Garnett is the barn manager at MacNair's Country Acres school barn and also an instructor.  Julie graduated from Averett University in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Equine Science and Biological Psychology.  After college, Julie became a working student at Braeburn Farm under the instruction of Cindy Sydnor, who is a USDF Examiner and Judge.  Julie is dedicated as an instructor to the classical training of horse and rider so that he/she may succeed in any discipline in the Equine Industry.  Although Julie's basis is mostly dressage, she also competed in eventing for the majority of her childhood and instructed eventers and jumpers through college.  Julie is currently seeking her USDF instructor certification and hopes to obtain her goals in 2008.

Martina Peterson

 

Martina joined MacNair's in November 2007 as an instructor, assistant barn manager, and as the leader of our 4H club.  Martina was born and grew up in the Czech Republic and literally has spent her entire life around horses.  At the age of eight, she began working in the barn learning horse care.  Progressing through the riding and training of steeplechase and show jumpers, she was showing in dressage and competing in the 4' jumpers by the age of fifteen.  Martina moved to the United States in 1997.  She worked at Brian Bell Performance Training as barn manager and trainer, moving to Southern Oak Equestrian Center in 2000.  While there her responsibilities included barn managing, training at all ages and levels, and leading an active 4H program. 

 

Deb Vogl

 

 

 

Deb is the newest addition to MacNair's, coming to us from Vermont in May 2008.  She began horseback riding at the age of seven and has been a lifelong horse lover since.  She was very active in the Vermont 4-H program, participating in all events possible and earning the title of Vermont 4-H State Horse Show Senior Champion two times, and representing Vermont at the New England 4-H Championships.  Outside of 4-H, Deb has also trained for and competed at the State Show level in Amateur Jumpers for several years, earning overall rankings each year.  After taking time off to focus on college studies and starting a career in finance, she gradually got back into riding and is now working full time offering her knowledge to the next generation of riders.  Deb looks forward to being a positive role model for riders of all ages and abilities.

Mary Pope Furr

 

Mary Pope grew up competing on pony hunters at A-rated shows in Virginia and Maryland. She took a break from horses to attend Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. Mary Pope also earned her Masters degree from the Architecture School at the University of Virginia. She is currently the supervisor for historic architectural & landscape studies for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Mary Pope began teaching horseback riding in 1989 at Camp Seafarer, advancing to director of the program in 1992. She began teaching at MacNair's in 1996 on a part-time basis and continues to teach both group and private lessons. She has an ANRC rider rating and competes in hunter shows on her horse Daniel.  The pair were very successful in 2005 on the Eastern Hunter Association circuit, earning Reserve High Point Horse of the year.
 

Mattie Johnson

 

 

In addition to riding at MacNair's (which she has done since 1993), Mattie became one of the instructors for the half-day camp and an assistant for the full day camp program Camp Cheval in 2005.  For four years, she has worked on the Camp Cheval craft program, developing creative crafts for the full-day camp.  Working on these creative projects is right up Mattie's alley: she is a graphic designer by trade and, after a number of years working in local advertising agencies, has owned and operated her own design firm for more than five years.  Mattie now teaches Pony School, which perfectly combines her fondness for children with her love of horses.

Terry Sabo

 

 

Terry Sabo began her equestrian education as a working and riding student at a riding school facility in Markfield, England where she gained certification at the Stage II Level of the British Horse Society system. Upon her return to the United States Terry joined MacNair’s, became involved in the ANRC program, and completed the MacNair’s Instructor course.  Currently Terry is our tack safety supervisor . She also helped create the Horse Sense program, and has taught Community lessons, Pony School, NCSU P.E. classes, and summer camp. Terry currently has an ANRC rider rating. Terry also is the manager at M&M Tack Shop where she assists students in finding appropriate riding equipment and attire.
