Horse boarding

We offer three. Full-service stall board at the Top Barn (our Country Acres facility) and at the Legacy barn are each $1,250 per month, and self-care pasture board is $500 per month. Full-service board includes daily care, while pasture board is self-care.

Top Barn full-service board is $1,250 per month, Legacy full-service board is $1,250 per month, and self-care pasture board is $500 per month. Some extras, such as individual paddocks and trailer storage, are available for an additional fee.

Our main boarding barn is the Country Acres facility, which we and our riders call the Top Barn. Our second barn is the Legacy barn. Boarders at either barn can use both facilities.

Both are full-service at $1,250 per month, and boarders at either barn can use the other facility. The Top Barn (Country Acres) has 12′ x 12′ stalls, a heated and air-conditioned lounge, a large outdoor lighted ring with a course of jumps, a covered lighted ring, a dressage ring, and a pony ring. It requires two lessons per week and is for junior and adult amateur owners and leasers who ride on our Show Team. Legacy has 10′ x 12′ stalls, an outdoor lighted ring with jumps, and an indoor lighted ring with mirrors, and it is for owners who ride with their own trainer or on their own, with no lesson requirement.

Pasture board is $500 per month and offers 25 acres of rolling pastureland to a limited number of adults on a self-care basis, meaning you provide your horse's daily feed and care. Pasture-boarded horses live outdoors together in a mixed herd. It includes a run-in shed, a tack and feed room, three stalls for temporary use, a round pen, and access to the arenas at both facilities.

It depends on the barn. Top Barn board requires two lessons per week and is intended for owners and leasers working toward our Show Team. Legacy board has no lesson requirement.

The Top Barn (Country Acres) is for junior and adult amateur owners and leasers who ride on our Show Team. Boarders there commit to two lessons per week.

Yes, at the Legacy barn. Legacy boarders may trailer out to train elsewhere, or have their own trainer come to work with them at MacNair's. Bringing an outside trainer requires scheduling in advance and a ring fee.

Yes. Owners and leasers who board at the Top Barn and train with our program are eligible to join our Show Team, which travels throughout North Carolina to NCHJA "C" and USEF "A" rated shows with our Head Trainer, Sarah Garcia. You can learn more on our Show Team page.

Full-service board includes a stall cleaned daily, grain twice daily with our custom MCA Pro Performance blend, hay three to four times daily, and turnout with blanketing and fly gear to your specifications.

Owners supply their horse's own blankets and fly gear. For full-service boarders, we then put it on and take it off as part of turnout, following your instructions.

Full-service horses are grained twice daily with MCA Pro Performance, a custom blend distributed by Mule City Specialty Feeds, plus hay three to four times daily. You can read the full feed details in this PDF.

For all boarders, we coordinate weekly visits from two local equine veterinary practices, twice-weekly farrier visits, and quarterly equine chiropractic visits. A certified MagnaWave provider is also on site, with discounted treatment rates for MCA boarders.

Yes. Supplements and medications are given as part of full-service care. Owners are responsible for packaging daily supplement mixes and for providing any prescribed medications.

Other services, such as applying standing wraps to a horse on stall rest or carrying out wound care, are available for a fee.

Yes. We do night checks every night to make sure all is well out in the pastures and with any horse that may be on stall rest.

Boarders can use the rings at both facilities. The Top Barn (Country Acres) has an outdoor 150′ x 250′ lighted ring with a course of jumps, a covered 120′ x 200′ lighted ring, a 20m x 60m dressage ring, and an outdoor pony ring. Legacy has an outdoor 100′ x 200′ lighted ring with jumps and an indoor 70′ x 130′ lighted ring with mirrors. Both connect to miles of roads and trails.

Yes. The Top Barn has a covered lighted ring, and the Legacy barn has an indoor lighted ring with mirrors, so boarders can ride comfortably in most weather. Each barn also has an outdoor lighted ring.

Group turnout in our pastures is included with full-service board. A limited number of individual and small-group paddocks are available for an additional fee.

At both the Top Barn and Legacy, horses are typically brought into their stalls for about 7 to 9 hours during the day, weather depending, then turned back out in the afternoon to spend the evening and overnight outdoors.

Yes. On-site trailer storage is available for an additional fee.

Board is billed monthly. Boarders keep a card on file and receive a notification several days before the card is run, outlining the charges for the prior month.

Boarding at MacNair's is month to month, with no long-term contract. If the time comes to move on, we simply ask for 30 days' notice.

Availability changes through the year, and we usually keep a waitlist, so it is always worth reaching out even when a barn is full. Complete our Board Interest Form or give us a call, and we will let you know what is open and where you would fall on the list.

New horses need proof of a negative Coggins test within the last year along with vaccination records.

To help your horse settle in, turnout may start as daytime or individual turnout until we are confident they have adjusted to life at MacNair's. New members of a turnout group are always introduced thoughtfully, spending several days getting to know the group over a fence before being turned out together.

We are located at 2721 Dover Farm Road, Raleigh, NC 27606, in the southwest part of town near Cary. Boarders come to us from Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and across the greater Triangle.
